Earthquake!

Happened today exactly at 19:56 Japan time. This one was pretty decent with magnitude 6.9 but in our area it felt like mag. 3 which is not too dangerous at all. The Japanese don’t get much of a shock out of these small ones. Just in case, we jumped over to the back side of the house that faces the garden. Surprisingly, the shaking lasted about 30 (!) seconds. There was no damage, however. Japanese TV is extremely fast to report about quakes, so we got the info in just a few seconds afterwards. The epicenter was in the ocean somewhere southwest of Tokyo off the coast of Honshu in the Tokaido Nampo-oki region 340 km under ground.

I don’t really have to explain that Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world. The event reminded me on small quakes while I still lived in Los Angeles. If I’m not mistaken, every year I felt at least one but only for two or three seconds.
