Monaka – a Japanese sweet

An acquaintance brought over a box of some delicious sweet tasting monaka (最中). Monaka is a Japanese sweet, made of soft anko bean filling usually sandwiched between crisp wafers. You can see the pictures below. This particular monaka had wafer covering all around in the shape of a face and was made in Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture. This city is quite famous for making this type of sweet and monaka from there is relatively pricey. The Japanese like to enjoy green tea while eating sweets. Itadakimasu! (Bon appetit).
