Picking seaweed at the beach

Surprised at this view? At first I naively believed these guys were looking for seashells or fish, but Erika tells me they’re picking seaweed. For eating of course. Took these photos on the island of Hakkeijima right next to the coast of Yokohama. Luckily, the water there is pretty clean and if you want to gather some seaweed, you’ll also need permission. Seaweed is pretty much an integral part of Japanese cuisine and comes in various forms and flavors. It is known as a healthy ingredient with high nutritional value and very low calories. I must admit it can be very tasty!
