Tokyo skyline from Sky Deck on top of Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills

Mori Tower is a massive 54 stories tall high-rise that’s centerpiece of the large Roppongi Hills complex in Tokyo’s Minato ward. It’s one of the most famous tourist spots in this city. The building houses offices for companies like Ferrari Japan, TV Asahi, Konami, Rakuten, Yahoo Japan… Besides business areas you’ll find the Mori Art Museum, a gallery, restaurants, shops, cinemas…

Last year here they opened the Sky Deck viewing platform where you can enjoy a 360-degree view of  the Tokyo skyline. Admission fee is ¥1500 and it’s open from 9 AM until midnight every day. We went there last year in summer. If you’re not afraid of heights, you can take the elevator up to the highest floor, wait a few minutes in line, and then follow the crowd up the stairs to the platform at the height of about 250 meters. As you can imagine, the wind is pretty wild up there, so if you have a hat or a wig, you can put it in a bag they’ll give you as you wait in line.

We spent about 1 hour on the platform in the evening just before sunset and so we could catch a pretty dramatic view. Tokyo’s air is one of the cleanest in the world, but on that day the visibility was even better than average because of the heavy rain the day before. Apparently in the right weather conditions you can even see Mt. Fuji in the distance, but at that time we had no such luck.

Below are some pictures from the top of the tower.

A view of Tokyo during daytime from the top of Mori Tower. The red/white tower is the Tokyo Tower.

Those who are brave enough can enjoy the view all around the edges of the platform.

Tokyo traffic.

Taken at sunset from Sky Deck atop Mori Tower. The satellite dishes and parts of the construction give you a rather suspicious feeling that you’re standing on an aircraft carrier or something of that sort.
