Human-powered Velotaxi in Japan

Recently, there has been an increase of so called Velotaxis in Japanese cities, particularly in tourist areas. Somehow they look like modern rickshaws and I came across quite a few of those in Tokyo. The idea actually came from Germany, where Velotaxi has already become sort of a trend in major cities.

Velotaxis are advertised as environmentally-friendly vehicles for tourists. Companies and organizations can rent advertising space on the casing. The drivers seem to be quite trained and can take you quickly to your destination within a certain area. At the end of the ride, they’ll give you a receipt that includes the amount of saved CO2 that would have otherwise been used if you took a car.
