Daily Onigiri takes a virtual cruise on the Sumida river — one of the main rivers that flow through Tokyo.
We’ll start off at our departing dock in the heart of the city in Asakusa…
As we take a boat ride under numerous bridges, we’ll reach the Sumida river delta in Tokyo Bay…
… we continue our trip under the famous Rainbow Bridge…
… until we finally reach our final stop at Odaiba, the artificial island…
… where to our surprise we’re greeted by the Statue of Liberty. That’s right — New York City isn’t the only place with the Statue of Liberty. Except, the Japanese version is much smaller.
As you watch those lonely monumental skyscrapers from the fish perspective in the midst of almost total silence, somehow you can’t imagine that this area around you is crammed with more than 30 million people.
Sumida river tours are managed by Tokyo Cruise which owns several tour boats, the so-called suijo-bus. If you’re visiting Tokyo and are interested in this type of tour, you’ll find some useful information on the Tokyo Cruise web site.
