Top 10 most watched music videos on YouTube Japan in 2010

Yesterday we saw top 10 most watched videos on YouTube Japan, today let’s have a look at the most watched music videos.

What did Japanese YouTubers listen to this year? Here’s the list, according to calculations by YouTube REWIND 2010:

1. AKB48 – Ponytail to Shushu (ポニーテールとシュシュ). If you don’t know them yet, AKB48 is a highly popular all-girl pop group with 48 members who are divided into several smaller teams and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as a pop group with the highest number of members. AKB48 has its own theater in Tokyo’s Akihabara — on the 8th floor of the Don Kihote store — where they perform once every weekday and more than once on the weekends.

2. Perfume – Natural ni Koishite (ナチュラルに恋して). Perfume, a female electropop group that originated in Hiroshima, is becoming increasingly popular in Japan because of its trademark electronic sounding music that influenced several more recent music artists.

3. AKB48 – Heavy Rotation (ヘビーローテーション). It’s AKB48 again with a song titled Heavy Rotation.

4. Perfume – Fushizen na Girl (不自然なガール). Perfume performs a surrealistic poem called Fushizen na Girl (Artificial Girl).

5. Funky Monkey Babys – Tears (涙 – Namida). Funky Monkey Babys, also known as Fan-mon, is a Japanese band grouped in 2004 that performs mostly hip hop but is also inspired by pop and rock. They’re known for featuring celebrities in their promotional videos and singles jackets.

6. Perfume – VOICE. The girls of Perfume captured many listeners with their voice — in Voice.

7. Lady Gaga – Telephone ft. Beyoncé. The first non-Japanese title on the list is sung by no one else than Lady Gaga with a song about a telephone.

8. Kana Uemura (植村花菜) – Toire no Kamisama / God of Toilet (トイレの神様). Kana Uemura performs an impressive 10-minute acoustic ballad about her grandmother. The song became a big hit this year.

9. SNSD – Oh!. Yet another non-Japanese song, this time from South Korea. SNSD (or Shojo Jidai), also known as Girls’ Generation in Korea, is a nine-member female group that torpedoed into the Japanese music scene in late 2010.

10. AKB48 – Namida Surprise. The embarrassing 10th place belongs to — surprise, surprise — AKB48 with a cheerful song titled Namida Surprise (Surprise Tears).

This concludes our insight into the Top 10 most watched music videos on YouTube Japan in 2010.
