Futuristic ‘Cool Leaf’ mirror keyboard coming soon

Japanese company Minebea will soon launch its new flat keyboard called Cool Leaf, designed by industrial designer Kazuo Kawasaki. The product will be in stores in Japan on May 13, 2011.

The futuristic looking keyboard that makes use of a multi-touch capacitive touch panel, looks just like a mirror when the power is off. When you touch the surface, it blinks into life and displays the keys.

Cool Leaf is water- and dust-resistant. Besides home users, it is being targeted for use in the medical field and food factories where cleanliness is important, as well as dark home theaters.

The keyboard works on USB and will be initially available for PC (Windows) and later for Macs.
