Quake-damaged road in Japan fixed in just six days

These photos were published by East Nippon Expressway soon after the Great East Japan Earthquake in March this year.

The quake left a massive 150-meter crack along a section of the important Great Kanto Highway that runs between Tokyo and Naka in Ibaraki Prefecture. Workers from road repair company Nexco started fixing the road on March 17. Six days later, on March 23, it was opened to traffic — as if nothing had happened.

Japanese TV reported that about 2000 workers, working 24 hours a day, helped with the repairs.

Note: Some foreign media has been incorrectly reporting that the road was fixed in three days.
