Daily Onigiri is a relatively new web site (we opened in July 2009) and is currently operated by just two people. Since we launched, we’ve grown much more than we expected and our readers base nearly doubles every month. With aim to become one of the leading and popular blogs related to Japanese culture, entertainment and news, we are looking for volunteer authors to grow with us and contribute their stories. You might have noticed that Daily Onigiri is a bilingual blog with all articles published in both English and Slovenian (the founder of Daily Onigiri is Slovenian, that’s why!). Whenever you write an article for us, we will translate it and post it simultaneously in the Slovenian version.
What are the requirements?
• We don’t mind where you’re from but you must be able to write in fluent and quality English. We’ll ask you for a sample decent length blog article which you have written. If you have never written a blog before, just send us a sample writing.
• Have some knowledge of Japanese culture, customs, history, current events, or entertainment. If you have knowledge of Japanese language, that’s a major plus!
• You must have lived or currently live in Japan.
What kind of articles are we looking for?
Most of all, our goal is to provide our readers with high quality and unique content that is aimed at general audience with interest in Japan. We sort our blog into many categories and mostly any kind of article will apply, as long as it is interesting and gives information that cannot be easily found elsewhere. Humor in your writing is always welcome! Since we’re looking for unique stories, copying and pasting from another blog or news site is, of course, unacceptable.
Do I need to provide photos/illustrations with my article?
That is up to you. However, photos always enrich our content and make it more attractive. If you cannot provide a relevant photo, we will try finding one. Please keep in mind that you must be the owner of any photos you provide OR have permission to use them. Last thing we want is trouble with copyrights! If you include a photo but we feel it is not of enough good quality, we will try finding a replacement. All included photos (with exception of those that belong to someone else but you have permission to use them) will be watermarked with the URL of our site.
Will I get paid for writing?
Daily Onigiri is just a few months old web site that does not generate any profit and all operational costs are covered by the owner. As such, we cannot offer paid positions at this time. We are devoting our free time in running this site.
I am not a writer, can I contribute in some other way?
Yes! Primarily we are looking for writers but if you have a great idea for us or a special talent that would help the site grow more popular and would like to become part of the team, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Please contact us and write something about yourself and why you would like to be considered. We’ll then ask you for a sample writing. Please know that we might not be able to accept anyone who applies if we feel that their contributions would not be interesting to our visitors.
